Girls, follow these few simple bits of advice and you should always get to where you're going safe and sound.

• Make sure your breakdown cover is current.
• Your mobile phone is charged and has credit.
• Carry a pen, paper and torch.
• Plan your journey and also where possible let the people at your destination know when to expect you.
• Check your oil levels and it's a good idea to carry spare supplies.
• Make sure the windscreen washer is topped up.
• Check your tyres for both for pressure and wear, including the spare.
• Sat Nav' does take the stress out of journey but we do recommend keeping an atlas in your car as well.
• Ensure you have a full tank of petrol for long journeys.
• Keep your driving licence up-to-date, you may be convicted for failing to notify a change of address.
